THE WARNING — LONDON, UK.
The Warning at Academy Brixton, London, UK.
with support from Sophie Lloyd!
The Warning merch covers the streets of London ahead of their biggest UK show to date, headlining the O2 Brixton Academy with support from Sophie Lloyd as part of their ‘Keep Me Fed’ album tour. The Mexican band consisting of sisters, Dany on lead vocals and guitar, Alejandra on the bass and drummer/vocalist Paulina have seen an increasing amount of attention in the past year, including appearances on The Kelly Clarkson Show and a collaboration with Dead Poet Society on their hit ‘HURT’.
The night began with incredible performances from Sophie Lloyd and her band, with Marisa Rodriguez taking the place for vocals. The MachineGunKelly guitarist introduced herself with a flawless Top Gun guitar solo, leaving the crowd not only curious, but filled with excitement for what was to come from her. Introducing Marisa, Sophie impressed the London crowd with five original songs, also surprising the audience with a cover of ‘Enter Sandman’, creating an extremely giddy atmosphere amongst fans.
Original songs played by Sophie included music from her 2023 release album ‘Imposter Syndrome’ , alongside singles ‘Runaway’ and ‘Do or Die’. Sophie was joined onstage by her drummer and second guitarist, showcasing her guitar talent through solos and outstanding riffs. With Sophie finishing her set, thanking and showing her appreciation for the love she received, the crowd was left buzzing with excitement, waiting anxiously for The Warning to take stage.
Cheers and screams roared through the iconic venue as the sisters took the stage, with large LED screens lighting their entrance. I swear I felt my ears nearly burst from the level of screams and singing to their first song, ‘Six Feet Deep’. This was followed closely by the newly released ‘S!CK’, and across the room is a sea of jumping and headbanging fans of all ages.
In between songs I hear a scream of “Now that’s The fucking Warning!” and honestly, whoever it was was right, as they astonished the crowd with a further two songs from their latest album, ‘Satisfied’ and ‘Escapism’. The sibling trio then performs a favourite ‘Apologise’ as what I thought was 100% energy got upped by 1000, with the audience still screaming even after the band had left the stage. We are then reunited with Dany for an emotional guitar solo, including multiple different melodies from older songs, opening up for a moment of musical vulnerability.
Joining their sister, Alejandra and Paulina return for a run of ‘ERROR’ hits, including ‘CHOKE’ and ‘MONEY’ splitting the crowd into two, for a chant battle of “money” and “cash” between the two sides, leading to intense shouts through-out the venue.
We are then met with a surprising addition of Paulina’s vocals whilst simultaneously playing the drums for ‘Survive’, before performing a fully Spanish song, explaining their group's love for their hometown, Monterrey. Inviting the crowd to sing along if they knew the words, ‘Qué Más Quieres’ (translating to ‘What Else Do You Want?’) , with Dany proudly showing off her Manson ORYX in a one of a kind mustard yellow, gifted to her by Muse’s Matt Bellamy when supporting Muse recently.
Despite the show being over halfway through, the crowd has kept the same energy, and with clearly more popular songs, taking it to the extreme. Screams roar through the O2 Brixton as ‘Consume’ finishes and ‘Burnout’ is introduced, proving more and more there doesn’t seem to be a single The Warning song fans won’t go crazy for.
For the first time since the sisters came on stage, the crowd seems calm as the stage goes black and the band disappears, but the silence is soon shattered by screams as a spotlight appears, showing Alejandra at the front of the stage playing bass. Closely followed by her sisters to play ‘DISCIPLE’ , with Paulina showing her extraordinary talent by singing the bridge alongside playing the drums again, and also encouraging complete crowd participation during the pre chorus.
Representing their nationality proudly once again, the band introduces a second fully spanish song, ‘Martirio’, meaning witness/testimony, and whilst the London crowd was unsure on most of the lyrics, their enthusiasm and excitement didn't budge. “This show is quite a milestone for us”, Paulina announces from her drumkit, “it’s our biggest headlining show outside of Mexico, we’re just three sisters from Monterrey who want to share our music with you” — “The fact that we’ve filled this place (O2 Academy Brixton) is unbelievable”
The band goes on to announce their final song, and the crowd seems to not waste a second standing still, bouncing and jumping along to the 2022 release ‘Evolve’, before the stage goes black and they walk off, in what seems to be the end of the show. With nobody fooled, cheers and shouts of “one more song” and “ole ole ole” fill the room, continuing with louder and more excited screams as lights come back on for the performance of ‘Narcisistia’, the fourth release by The Warning in 2019.
“This is our last song, let’s give it our all, let’s go” Dany shouted, addressing the crowd, and London did not disappoint, to the point where I’m sure at one point I felt the ground shake from the bouncing of fans at ‘Automatic Sun’. The chorus of fans singing seemed to know every single word, as they played the role of Dany’s backing vocals for a final time before cheering and clapping at the band as they walked off stage.
The sisters seemed in almost amazement at the dedication of the London The Warning fans, as I don’t think there was a single person standing still or not singing along whilst the band was on stage. I can honestly say The Warning well and truly kept the O2 Brixton well fed with old fan favourites and new hits, and I don’t think that the O2 Brixton will be their biggest headline for long.
