Tenement Trail 2022
Published On: 22/10/2022
After a three year break, Tenement Trail returned to Glasgow. The barrowlands and surrounding venues opened its doors once more to music fans coming to see the very best up and coming bands from across the UK.
Tenement Trail is a multi-venue festival which claims to be Scotland’s festival for music discovery. Over 50 bands descend on Glasgow in what is one of the best days out of the year.
Opening up the day, we went to see pop punk artist Joshua Grant playing in the Barras 2. The Edinburgh signer brought the noise alongside his band to wake up the crowd with his energetic set. Joshua recently took a gamble with his music, going from a traditional singer songwriter to a loud pop punk artist, and it’s worked. The room was packed and the tunes were coming thick and fast, with everyone nodding along to each song. It really sums up why Tenement Trail is such a good festival. Many people, including myself, would have turned up to this set having no idea what to expect from Joshua’s sound. Many would have left having seen an amazing performance from a young lad ready to continue bringing the noise.
We then headed along to see The Katuns in the beautiful St Luke’s. The Katuns have been a name I’ve heard of loads around the Glasgow scene, but never had a chance to catch live. The room was packed out for the band and it was bouncing towards the front. The band brought fans in their hundreds and this made for a memorable and amazing set.
After heading for a couple drinks and a bite to eat at the outdoor area next to BaaD, it was time to catch the tail end of Lanarkshire band Spyres. Again, the room was packed which meant i had to watch from the back of the room. The sound in this venue wasn’t great which meant that the set wasn’t as exciting as I had maybe hoped. Spyres themselves sounded good, with the crowd really coming in their hundreds to show their support for the young band.
Before I went to see headliners Vistas, I quickly stopped by St Luke’s again to see Pleasure Heads. The indie punk band from Falkirk are another group whose name I have heard thrown around, but never seen live. The band sounded great in the short time I managed to see them and definitely one I will be keeping my eye on.
It was now time for Vistas headliner slot in the Barrowlands. No stranger to the venue, this would be the bands third time headlining. The Edinburgh three piece played a career spanning set from all of their albums, even showing off new sounds from their upcoming EP. New single ‘Back of The Car’ sounded amazing live, and I even managed to get on a friends shoulders to belt out the lyrics. I left the barras sweaty and smiling, having closed the day with one of my favourite bands from Scotland.
The day at Tenement Trail summed up why it is one of the best days out of the year. There’s something for everyone and always something fun to see. I would wholeheartedly recommend people attend this festival at least once, just to get an understanding of what the hype is about.
