ONE ON ONE: AN INTERVIEW WITH GORE.!

We caught up with Hayley and Wills of GORE. for a quick chat about their Download set, their latest single ‘Sepsis’, who they want to see headline Download 2026 and more!

FIRST OF ALL, HOW ARE WE? ARE WE ENJOYING THE DOWNLOAD SUN?

Hayley: Tired, happy, ecstatic, grateful!.

Wills: Hungry, but loving life so much right now.

HOW DID YOUR SET GO ON THE DOGTOOTH STAGE?

Hayley: I think it went as good as it possibly could, the crowd was not only massive, like we had people outside of the tent watching us, but also they were really responsive. We've never had people moshing for certain songs.

Wills: Yeah, crowd surfing, we all just looked at each other like, “are you seeing this right now?” This is an insane experience.

YOUR SOUND MANAGES TO BLEND MELODY AND INFECTIOUS HOOKS WHILST WITH TECHNICALLY AND CRUSHING, HEAVY RIFFS. HOW DO YOU BALANCE EACH ELEMENT IN YOUR SONGWRITING APPROACH?

Hayley: For me I think growing up loving like, theatre, drama and romcoms.. I feel like kinda having the Disney princess melodies with everything just kind of managed to find its way in pretty easily. And I love RnB. They always have really good infectious melodies in RnB song writing. so I think having those influences helped.

Wills: I mean that sums it up and its really fun to just.. Trying to do stuff around her vocals.. You know, because we get technical but then lean back and just let her do her thing and its a really nice marriage of stuff you know? It sounds silly, but you know, it really works perfectly together.

ARE THERE ANY SETS YOU BOTH LOOKING FORWARD TO AT DOWNLOAD?

Hayley: So, I love Boston Manor so much —

Wills: We just caught them, well the end of them.

Hayley: Yeah I wasn't able to see the whole set because we were playing during their set, but I was able to catch them. I wanted to see Northlane. I don't think we're gonna catch them.

Wills: Yeah. Unfortunately.

Hayley: And then Vola. There's a lot of bands here that I saw when I was a little girl, so I've already, you know, if I don't get to see them, I'll be sad, but it'll be okay because I've already seen them, like, rise against.

Wills: like Jimmy Eat World, all that. Yeah.

ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING ARTISTS YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

Wills: Oh, yeah. Leon Thomas!

Hayley: Yeah! Let’s get some RnB going on! Yeah. Leon Thomas.

Wills: We have been listening to that album non stop. Amber Mark.

Hayley: So good.

Wills: Sasha Keeble.

Hayley: Sasha Keeble! She's, I think, she's from London. She's a local a local.

Wills: So awesome.

Hayley: In in the genre, I guess — Amir Elfiki, I'm really excited about. I really wish we get we got to be here Sunday to watch her.-

Wills: She's incredible.

Hayley: Yeah, Songs are insane. I don't really listen to, like, a ton of metal. So, obviously, if we could see Sleep Token, we would, obviously a huge inspiration for us.

Wills: Obviously, Lorna Shore..

Hayley: Lorna Shore would be sick. Those guys are sweeties.

YOUR NEW SINGLE SEPSIS JUST DROPPED! IT FEELS EVEN MORE RAW AND BRUTALLY HEAVY THAN YOUR PREVIOUS WORK, HOW WAS THE WRITING PROCESS FOR YOU ON THIS ONE?

Hayley: Yeah its been so good. It was a little bit of a risk to put that out because it is very different sonically from everything else we've done. Very much heavier, a bit more modern. And I feel like the reception's been incredible. Like, there have been a couple of fans who've been like, “I don't know”, But for every one fan that's like “I don't know”, there's 20 that are like, “this is my favourite song that you guys have done!” — So it's been insanely good.

Wills: Yeah. And and live, it's a good change of pace too. You know, I think where we put it in the set is really fun. Everyone's got a breather during ‘Doomsday’, and then boom, right into ‘Sepsis’, they're like, “oh.. okay I forgot we're at a freaking rock show, Let's go!”

LAST BUT NOT LEAST WHO ARE YOUR 2026 DOWNLOAD HEADLINERS?

Wills: Oh my gosh. I'm gonna say Gore.. [both laugh] No. For real.. Dang. That's a good question, It's gonna take a sec. Oh, the woman you just said, what was her name?

Hayley: Amira El Fiki? That would be sick. The Used would be sick, I'd like to see the Used.

Wills: I like Underoath, they have a sick live show. I just think they're badass. Killswitch Engage!

Hayley: That would be sick.

Wills: Of Mice and Men!

Hayley: Yeah! We love those guys!

Wills: Just because they’re our homeboys now.. yeah I think they'd be good, they'd let's sell some tickets haha!

WHAT’S NEXT FOR GORE? ANYTHING IN THE WORKS?

Hayley: Kim Dracula show!

Wills: Yeah, Two shows with Kim Dracula, the sixteenth and seventeenth of this month, so in a couple days! And then the end of November into December, we are coming back here with Of Mice and Men. Yeah. So we'll see you soon!
